Olaf's "In Summer" Frozen Birthday Party

 My daughter and her friend wanted a Frozen Birthday party in June.  So we decided it would be fun to do an Olaf "In Summer" combined birthday party.

The kids were invited to come in their swimsuits.  We had a kiddie pool, slip and slide, and other fun water games for them to play.  We also had my mother's professional ice shaver for some great snow cones.

My friend made this amazing Olaf stand up from a box.  The kids all loved him and had to have their pictures taken with him.

She also made this great Olaf piñata from three balloons and pipe cleaners.  Isn't she amazing?

I made a cake using fondant for the first time ever.  It was actually very easy.  

Using the left over fondant, I rolled little Olaf snowmen for the tops of the cupcakes.  For those who have more time, you can really make them look a lot more like Olaf with a few more details.

Dr. Seuss Birthday Lunch

We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday last week with reading books and watching some old Dr. Seuss movies.  The kids wanted a Dr. Seuss lunch.  This is what I came up with. 

I made PB&J sandwiches and cut them into a circle, with just a knife.  I then cut strawberries and bananas and put three of each onto a skewer with a cracker on the end.  I stuck the skewer into the sandwich.  For the whiskers, I used string cheese.  For the eyes and nose, I used Goldfish crackers.  All of these items are typical lunch food for my kids and it made a great sandwich.  Enjoy!  This would be great for a Cat in the Hat Birthday Party also.

Minnie Mouse Birthday Party

Fun Minnie Mouse Birthday Party Ideas!

I created these invitations using my silhouette cutter to cut out the Minnie Mouse head and ears. It was so easy to let the machine cut everything out. The invitations were very cute and super easy!



I was given an old Mickey Mouse cake pan and was able to turn Mickey Mouse into Minnie Mouse pretty easily. I used canned chocolate frosting for the brown and then used a homemade frosting recipe for the rest. This took me most of the morning, but was worth it.

I found a cute tutorial on how to make your own Minnie Mouse pinata. Check it out here: At Second Street. Using just a cardboard box, tape, tissue paper, and crepe paper. It was super cute and lots of fun.

Instead of taking the time to make cute Minnie and Mickey party hats, I just asked the kids to bring their own Mickey Ears if they had them. I had a few extras that I scrounged up for those who didn't have any yet. The birthday girl wore her Minnie Mouse shirt and ruffle bum pants that I made for her for our trip to Disneyland.
We hooked the pinata up to the volleyball poles. The little yellow bat didn't make a dent in it so we got out the metal bat. The kids did a little damage there, but not enough (I guess I made it a little too tough.) So we let the adults have a go at it until all the candy was out of it. The pinata was the perfect activity to keep the little kids and the adults entertained.

Rapunzel Birthday Party Activities

Fun activity ideas for a Rapunzel Birthday Party!

Flynn Rider Wanted Poster Game. I got this idea from SuperMom and used her frying pan printables. I found the wanted poster somewhere else, but can't find it again. I printed it off on my printer then took it to a print shop where they blew it up to poster size in minutes.


Princess crowns with jewels. The boys made stove top hats but wouldn't wear them in the pictures.

Painting. Rapunzel loves painting. The kids loved this activity. I got the pictures here.Rapunzel Tower free play and acting. Kids just love to run around.

The kids also went on a jewel hunt in the front room. But I don't have any good pictures of that.

Rapunzel's Birthday Doughnut Tower

I loved the idea of a tower birthday cake for my daughter's Tangled party. I found this great website with instructions for a Tangled Tower and got all the ingredients. SuperMom also made a tower with the same instructions.

The morning of the birthday parties, I planned on making the tower while my daughter was at preschool. I got a wooden dowel and stuck it in some Styrofoam, but it was really wobbly. The tower wouldn't be very stable with it like that. So my husband took a block of wood and drilled a hole into it. I covered the block with cute scrapbook paper (the same paper I used for the invitations) and stuck the dowel into the block with some hot glue. It was VERY stable. The perfect backbone for the tower.

When I opened the package of pecan rolls I was VERY disappointed. They were teeny tiny! Not what I was expecting. If I had made a tower with them, it would only have been about 9 inches high. I wanted a TOWER.

My husband had a great idea. Why not make the tower out of cake doughnuts? They are strong and solid and about the size I was thinking. He saved the day and picked up a dozen white cake doughnuts (from my favorite bakery, Dick's) while he was out getting balloons.

While he was out I put the candy coating on the waffle cones. I made a backup top just incase I needed it and then used the left over candy coating to dip some cupcakes and extra cones in. Guests used the cones for ice cream that night and said they were really good.

Then the hero came home with doughnuts and balloons. The doughnuts were PERFECT! I loved the doughnuts much more than the pecan rolls. The frosting and the sprinkles reminded me of the flowers on the tower.

I stacked 9 doughnuts onto the dowel and the topped it with the muffin and waffle cone. I mixed up green, pink, and purple frosting and created some vines and flowers for the tower (they aren't the best, I'm no cake decorator.) But the tower was perfect.

I borrowed my mom's stand and put the tower on top. It was great! The kids at the friends party got cupcakes and we ate the doughnut tower at the family party later that night. The doughnuts went super fast. Everyone wanted one.

I also made these cute jell-o cups with the same paper as the invitations. I got this great idea from SuperMom. The kids at the afternoon party liked them, but the adults at the family party didn't go for them as much. (They wanted the doughnuts.)

Princess and the Frog Birthday Party

My oldest girl just turned 3. She is quite a beautiful and fun little girl and is quite girly. I couldn't figure out just what to do for her birthday party because we needed to invite a couple boys until I found a frog cake pan in my basement. (My mom had given it to me years earlier and I had completely forgotten about it.) "THAT'S IT," I thought. A Princess and the Frog birthday party will be perfect because boys like frogs too.

This is the cake which inspired the theme.


Mint Ice Cream Frogs. (Cut a large green gum drop in half and put a drop of black icing for the eyes. The mouth is a little candy lime slice.)


As the kids came to the party, they each got a frog hat to color. (I got the hats from oriental trading, here, last year for a carnival. I added the eyes at the top and used a black marker to draw on a frog.)

After the kids got done coloring their hats, we played "Stick the Kiss on the Frog," like pin the tail on the donkey. (I made the frog and lips in Photoshop. I got the frog from Little Dreamer Designs, Hello Sugar by Michelle Coleman. I added the crown and made the lips. I blew up the frog and printed it on 4 white card stock pages and took it to a print shop to get it laminated.)

Next we went outside and played "Mamma Odie May I." (find the pattern here.)

We also played Musical Lily Pads, like musical chairs. (I cut lily pads out of green 12 x 12 paper and played music from my ipod.)
We gave these to our guests as party favors. (I found the bags at Target, but they could easily be made at home.)

Happy Birthday Banner

I made this birthday banner from scraps of fun fabric that I already had. I finished it the day before my 3 year old's birthday. When she woke up in the morning and saw it, she got really excited and wanted to start opening her presents right then.

Some of the letters are harder to read than others. I plan on top stitching around each letter to make them stand out a little better, but I ran out of time for that before this birthday party. I'll get to it later. We'll have this banner for years.
